Kawere Muhammad is the head of a family crafts business which has been making stoves and other metal and pottery crafts since the early 1980s. Most recently, he was in charge of technical operations and training in a five-year institutional stove construction project implemented by JEEP (Joint Energy and Environment Projects) and financed by Plan International (an NGO). The project built 40 stoves in Tororo, Luwero and Kampala Districts. He has been at the helm of successful community training and solid waste management projects (under UCODEA) since October 2002 – funded by Public Private Partnership for Urban Environment (a government program funded by the United Nations Development Program), Kampala City Council - Makindye Division, and Business Uganda Development Scheme – Enterprise Development Scheme (a subsidiary of Private Sector Foundation – Uganda). The project has been selected for scale study by National Environment Management Authority.

David Mukisa has been responsible for administration of UCODEA’s successful community training, solid waste management and stove projects since January 2003. He was also a facilitator in the February 2004 Artisan Training Workshop on improved stove design funded by GTZ. Previously, David worked with Hima Cement Limited as an administrative assistant responsible for quality records and supervising and training junior staff. He also has experience as a secondary school chemistry teacher. He holds a Certificate in Business Administration and Certificate in Information Technology from Makerere University completed specialized training in statistical quality control and standardization at Hima Cement.
