Our Mission

UCODEA engages the urban and peri-urban poor in innovative socio-economic development projects that have associated environmental health benefits. These environmental management strategies reduce the incidence of preventable diseases, thus translating to better health. The goal is to create a channel through which essential services can reach the least privileged and thus improve their standard of living.

Our Projects

The current focus of operations is the development and dissemination of technologies for improved household energy and health.
UCODEA is now pioneering the dissemination of improved stove technology in Uganda.
These stoves bring a range of benefits:

• Financial: a more efficient use of fuel saves money for consumers who struggle with rising fuel costs.
• Health: the stoves have a technology proven to reduce emissions of harmful pollutants that can cause respiratory and other illnesses.
• Environmental: : the stoves require less fuel, therefore mitigating the increasing pressure to log Uganda's forests.
• Climate Change: less fuel used = fewer carbon emissions, reducing the contribution to global warming.

Previous initiatives include a partnership with government authorities to manage solid waste in poor districts of the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
