UCODEA develops, markets and distributes improved stove technology.

Our improved charcoal stoves and institutional stoves are manufactured and sold throughout Uganda.

UCODEA has also developed a proprietary improved wood stove, adapting state-of-the-art rocket stove technology.

These products have many advantages over traditional wood and charcoal stoves:

• More efficient combustion saves money for consumers through reduced fuel costs.
• Reduction in the emission of harmful pollutants that can cause respiratory illnesses - a particular problem for women and children who suffer the effects when food is cooked indoors.
• Relieves some of the increasing pressure on Ugandan forests, which are being exploited for fuel. Currently, Ugandan deforestation rates are estimated at 2.2% per annum - one of the highest rates in the world. (Research statistic from a CARE report)
• Reduced greenhouse gas emissions as proven through the Kitchen Performance Test (KPT) studies.

	Improved Charcoal Stoves These household stoves are the most popular product in the improved stove range and come in a range of 5 sizes. The distinctive color scheme coats a durable sheet-steel metal casing. A ceramic inner lining provides major improvements in heat-retention compared to standard charcoal stoves. Results from a 2006 Kitchen Performance Test show that switching to an improved charcoal stove saved 36% in fuel use.
	Rocket Wood Stoves The innovative household rocket wood stove comes in a range of 3 sizes. The ceramic lining is cased in sheet steel. The distinctive design houses a "rocket" combustion chamber, providing a step-change in fuel-efficiency and smoke reduction. Monitoring activities of the Rocket Wood Stove, conducted in 2006 by UCODEA with training and support assistance from CEIHD, provide clear evidence that the stove improves indoor air quality. Additional Kitchen Performance Tests conducted in the same year showed an average fuel savings of 58%, after switching to a Rocket Wood Stove.
	Institutional Stoves Robust improved institutional stoves offer organizations such as hospitals and schools the benefits of major reduction in fuel expenditure. They come in two formats: The portable (pictured) format has a large stove rim, low smoke output and durable design. The fixed installation format are instituational stoves that are long-lasting and ideal for mass catering organizations.
	Custom-Design Stoves With our extensive experience in stove technology, UCODEA also develops custom solutions, such as bread ovens.
